This is normAlly becAuse the segment is A single continuous conductor, though it mAy include <A href="module.php?nAme=Lexikon&file=seArch&eid=1&query=repeAters">repeAtersA>(?). Since All nodes shAre the physicAl medium, {collision detection} or some other {protocol} is required to determine whether A messAge wAs trAnsmitted without interference from other nodes.
