NESL
A parallel language loosely based on href="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=ML">ML, developed at href="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=Carnegie Mellon University">Carnegie Mellon University by the href="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=SCandAL">SCandAL project. NESL integrates parallel href="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=algorithms">algorithms, {functional languages} and implementation techniques from the system' s community. Nested href="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=data parallelism">data parallelism offers concise code that is easy to understand and debug and suits irregular data structures such as href="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=trees">trees, href="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=graphs">graphs or href="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=sparse matrices">sparse matrices. NESL' s language based performance model is a formal way to calculate the "work" and "depth" of a program. These measures can be related to running time on a href="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=parallel computer">parallel computer. NESL was designed to make parallel programming easy and portable. Algorithms are typically more concise in NESL than in most other parallel programming languages and the code resembles high-level href="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=pseudocode">pseudocode. This places more responsibility on the href="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=compiler">compiler and href="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=run-time system">run-time system for achieving good efficiency.
