Real Time Language. A small ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=real-time">real-time language based on ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=ALGOL 68">ALGOL 68, with ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=separate compilation">separate compilation designed by J.G.P. Barnes of ICI in 1972 as a successor to ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=RTL/1">RTL/1. A program is composed of separately compilable modules called "bricks" which may be datablocks, procedures or stack. A stack is a storage area for use as a workspace by a task. The language is ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=block-structured">block-structured and ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=weakly typed">weakly typed. Simple types are byte, int, frac and real. There are no ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=Boolean">Booleans. Compound types may be formed from ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=array">arrays, ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=record">records and ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=ref">refs (pointers).
