The average of a set of ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=floating-point">floating-point and integer ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=SPEC">SPEC ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=benchmark">benchmark results. While the old average ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=SPECmark89">SPECmark89 has been popular with the industry and the press, ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=SPEC">SPEC has intentionally *not* defined an average "SPECmark92" over all ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=CPU">CPU ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=benchmark">benchmarks of the 1992 suites (ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=CINT92">CINT92 and ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=CFP92">CFP92), for the following reasons: With 6 integer (ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=CINT92">CINT92) and 14 ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=floating-point">floating-point (ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=CFP92">CFP92) benchmarks, the average would be biased too much toward floating-point. Customers' workloads are different, some integer-only, some floating-point intensive, some mixed. Current processors have developed their strengths in a more diverse way (some more emphasizing integer performance, some more floating-point performance) than in 1989.
