Applications for wireless networks include multi-party ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=teleconferencing">teleconferencing, distributed work sessions, {personal digital assistant}s, and electronic newspapers. They include the transmission of voice, video, ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=image">images, and data, each traffic type with possibly differing ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=bandwidth">bandwidth and quality-of-service requirements. The wired/wireless network combination provides a severe bandwidth mismatch, as well as vastly different error conditions.
