Hope
A ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=functional programming">functional programming language designed by R.M. Burstall, D.B. MacQueen and D.T. Sanella at {University of Edinburgh} in 1978. It is a large language supporting user-defined ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=prefix">prefix, ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=infix">infix or ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=distfix">distfix operators. Hope has ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=polymorphic">polymorphic typing and allows ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=overloading">overloading of operators which requires explicit type declarations. Hope has {lazy lists} and was the first language to use {call-by-pattern}.
