Oberon
A ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=strongly typed">strongly typed ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=procedural">procedural programming language and an operating environment evolved from ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=Modula-2">Modula-2 by ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=Nicklaus Wirth">Nicklaus Wirth in 1988. Oberon adds type extension (ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=inheritance">inheritance), extensible record types, multidimensional open arrays, and ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=garbage collection">garbage collection. It eliminates {variant records}, {enumeration types}, {subranges}, lower array indices and ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=for loops">for loops. A successor called Oberon-2 by H. Moessenboeck features a handful of extensions to Oberon including type-bound procedures (ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=method">methods). Seneca is a variant of Oberon focussing on numerical programming under development by R. Griesemer in April 1993 (to be renamed).
