Eaton, with help from many others, like ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=MATLAB">MATLAB, primarily intended for numerical computations. Octave provides a convenient ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=command line interface">command line interface for solving linear and nonlinear problems numerically. Octave can do arithmetic for ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=real">real and ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=complex">complex ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=scalars">scalars and ref="module.php?name=Lexikon&file=search&eid=1&query=matrices">matrices, solve sets of nonlinear algebraic equations, integrate functions over finite and infinite intervals, and integrate systems of ordinary differential and differential-algebraic equations.
