constant angular velocity
< storage> (CAV) A disk driving scheme in which the {angular velocity} of the di sk i s kept con stant. Thi s mean s that the linear velocity of the di sk be larger when the reading or writing the outer track s. The di sadvantage of thi s technique i s that the read/write speed varie s from track to track. However, a s mechanical stability put s an upper limit on the angular velocity (and not the linear velocity) thi s allow s the full potential of the drive i s u sed.
