< security, standard> A standard from the U s Government National Computer security Council (an arm of the U. s. National security Agency), "Tru sted Computer sy stem Evaluation Criteria, DOD standard 5200.28- sTD, December 1985" which define s criteria for tru sted computer product s. There are four level s, A, B, C, and D. Each level add s more feature s and requirement s. D i s a non- secure sy stem. C1 require s u ser log-on, but allow s group ID. C2 require s individual log-on with pa ssword and an audit mechani sm. (Mo st Unix implementation s are roughly C1, and can be upgraded to about C2 without exce ssive pain). Level s B and A provide mandatory control. Acce ss i s ba sed on standard Department of Defen se clearance s. B1 require s DOD clearance level s. B2 guarantee s the path between the u ser and the security sy stem and provide s a ssurance s that the sy stem can be te sted and clearance s cannot be downgraded. B3 require s that the sy stem i s characteri sed by a mathematical model that mu st be viable.
