BIFF
/bif/ (Or "B1FF", f ROM Usenet) The most famous pseudo, and the prototypical newbie. Articles f ROM BIFF are characterised by all uppercase letters sprinkled liberally with bangs, typos, "cute" misspellings (EVRY BUDY LUVS GOOD OLD BIFF CUZ HE' S A K00L DOOD AN HE RITES REEL AWESUM THINGZ IN CAPITULL LETTRS LIKE THIS!!!), use (and often misuse) of fragments of chat abbreviations, a long sig block (sometimes even a doubled sig), and unbounded naivete. BIFF posts articles using his elder brother' s VIC-20. BIFF' s location is a mystery, as his articles appear to come f ROM a variety of sites. However, BITNET seems to be the most frequent origin. The theory that BIFF is a denizen of BITNET is supported by BIFF' s (unfortunately invalid) {electronic mail address}: . [1993: Now It Can Be Told! My spies inform me that BIFF was originally created by Joe Talmadge , also the author of the infamous and much-plagiarised "Flamer' s Bible". The BIFF filter he wrote was later passed to Richard Sexton, who posted BIFFisms much more widely. Versions have since been posted for the amusement of the net at large. - ESR] [Jargon File] (1997-09-22) In addition suitable contents: [ 2 ] [ = ] [ @ ] [ abbrev ] [ ad ] [ address ] [ ag ] [ ai ] [ al ] [ am ] [ an ] [ API ] [ app ] [ ar ] [ arc ] [ arg ] [ as ] [ at ] [ au ] [ av ] [ AWE ] [ B ] [ b ] [ B1FF ] [ ba ] [ bang ] [ bb ] [ be ] [ bi ] [ BITNET ] [ block ] [ bo ] [ bounded ] [ br ] [ by ] [ C ] [ CA ] [ ca ] [ CAP ] [ CAPI ] [ case ] [ cat ] [ ch ] [ char ] [ character ] [ ck ] [ cl ] [ co ] [ com ] [ cr ] [ CU ] [ cu ] [ D ] [ dd ] [ de ] [ do ] [ doubled sig ] [ du ] [ E ] [ ec ] [ ed ] [ ee ] [ electron ] [ electronic mail ] [ electronic mail address ] [ er ] [ era ] [ es ] [ ESR ] [ ET ] [ et ] [ FF ] [ fi ] [ file ] [ filter ] [ fo ] [ for ] [ fr ] [ fragment ] [ G ] [ ge ] [ gi ] [ gm ] [ GOOD ] [ gs ] [ h ] [ hat ] [ hr ] [ IC ] [ id ] [ ie ] [ IFF ] [ il ] [ in ] [ inc ] [ io ] [ IS ] [ is ] [ IT ] [ it ] [ ITU ] [ J ] [ Jargon File ] [ K ] [ la ] [ lag ] [ lamer ] [ ld ] [ Lex ] [ li ] [ LL ] [ location ] [ ls ] [ lt ] [ ly ] [ M ] [ ma ] [ mail ] [ mo ] [ mod ] [ module ] [ ms ] [ mu ] [ my ] [ N ] [ na ] [ naive ] [ nc ] [ ne ] [ net ] [ newbie ] [ nf ] [ ng ] [ ni ] [ ns ] [ O ] [ om ] [ OO ] [ OOD ] [ pa ] [ pe ] [ ph ] [ PI ] [ PIT ] [ pl ] [ port ] [ post ] [ pr ] [ pseudo ] [ query ] [ rc ] [ RE ] [ re ] [ ro ] [ RS ] [ S ] [ se ] [ si ] [ sig ] [ sig block ] [ sit ] [ sm ] [ so ] [ spell ] [ SR ] [ st ] [ su ] [ support ] [ T ] [ th ] [ theory ] [ to ] [ tr ] [ tron ] [ TRS ] [ tt ] [ typo ] [ up ] [ us ] [ Usenet ] [ V ] [ va ] [ var ] [ ve ] [ vi ] [ VIC-20 ] [ VR ] [ wb ] [ WE ] [ Y ] [ Z ] [ zen ]
